Establishment of Project Management Unit for EHPFVMP
The Eastern Highlands Province Fresh Vegetable Market Project (EHPFVMP) has formally established a dedicated Project Management Unit (PMU) under the Provincial Division of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries. This strategic move aims to strengthen coordination and implementation of the project across all eight districts of the province.
As part of this initiative, Ms. Maria Wau has been recruited as the Project Coordinator. One of her key responsibilities is to facilitate the formation and registration of farmers’ cooperative societies in each district. These cooperatives will serve as the primary channel for collecting fresh produce from local farmers. The produce will be stored, aggregated, and then transported to Goroka for distribution and sale to commercial buyers and institutional clients. This system is designed to ensure organized market access, improve value chain efficiency, and promote sustainable income generation for smallholder farmers across Eastern Highlands Province.
Farmers mobilization through Cooperative Societies is the first step and the team is focusing on it for the the last couple of months.
